Matter does matter. A dusting of snow on the Titlis, Trudi sporting a healthy tan, light, air, sun combined with speed and clean lines - the Engelberg of the heyday of Swiss graphic design belongs to Herbert Matter (1907-1984): photography and graphic design, the consistent use of lower case text, posters with a panorama or portrait, collages, the play on negative and positive form as well as sorties into the world of art as when Matter redid the interior decoration of his parents' tea-room in 1930 in El Lissitzky style: "Lounging avant la lettre". It has been a long time since anyone took up the inheritance left behind by Matter. Engelberg remained unseen behind picture postcard representations. But now this has changed. A group of local and foreign photographers, graphic designers, writers have been sounding out the spirit of Engelberg and its inhabitants who come from all four corners of the earth.
